The worst thing you can do to a Rottweiler is bring one home and have little to no interaction with the dog or worse yet chain them up outside and leave them isolated from the family. Your Rottweiler will become a social misfit and a danger to you and your family.
The Rottweiler breed needs the constant interaction with people to develop a healthy concept of oneself and their family. Dog are people oriented and thrive in our presence and offer their companionship and natural protective instinct.
The vigilant and watchful family is the best family for the protective Rottweiler.

When considering how to channel our Rottweiler's instincts we must consider their background. The Rottweiler has been worked in Germany for centuries carting, guarding, and general farm work. Their work ethic is wonderful and deeply ingrained into the Rottweiler character. Our modern Rottweiler's have this same work ethic, they are task oriented whether that be guarding or chewing up your couch, the Rottweiler see both as work for the day. They are happiest and best behaved when they have a job.
Training is the job you must give your Rottweiler as a puppy and an adult. Their courage, confidence, and intelligence make them excellent in training and quickly you will channel their natural protective instinct. With patience you can teach your Rottweiler positive lifelong behavior in a few short weeks.

More than a 1,000 Rottweiler are placed in homes a year. The breed's popularity is ranked among the top 20th in registrations among the American Kennel Club all this attention has lead to some bad breeding and a rash of un socialized, and abandoned Rottweiler's. Rottweiler's are loving and caring companions, all my daughters' friends would come to play with our Rottweiler Regan and there was never a hint of a growl, a nip, or aggression, our Rottweiler adored the children.
