Shark Jaws
My puppy has the jaws of a shark!!! He bites everything. What can i do?
My puppy is nine months old!! But he is so distructive.
we gave him new chew toys but he ripsthose apart and eats the bits he chewed off. and i give him a 2 block walk everyday!
My dog used to have the exact same problem. he's going to be three now.
but as a puppy we just kept giving him different kinds of toys..and when we do buy him new ones these days, (he still destroys toys within seconds)
we make sure the toy is made for heavy chewers. since they are made tougher and thicker. (he still destroys them fairly quickly sometimes..lol)
We buy him a NYLA BONE which is the brandname and name of the product...it is not a real bone but is shaped like one and contains flavor. they sell them in different chewing levels.
We buy my dog the hardest ones and it lasted him a very very long time even to this day he still hasnt chewed it off and gets him tired.
he must also be teething..so he gets agitated by the sensation and would want to chew and bit on everything..just like a baby would.
what we did was give him ice cubes from time to time as the Vet. suggested and also take a towel twist it (it will look like one of those twisted doughnuts) and then soak it in water dont squeez the water out put it in the freezer right away for a day or until it is rock solid and give it to ur pup to chew on. the cooling sensation numbs their gums and soothes them.
BUT make sure if you do this, that you are supervising your pup because the towel will soften later on and he'll be able to chew through it.
some dogs dont get over thier "puppyhood" until one-two years.
as soon as you catch him trying to destroy or chewing on sumthing he shouldn't, put a toy in his way right away and try to engage him with it as much as u can. (your basically reinforcing that this (the toy) is the one he should be chewing on)
its gonna take a lot of patience but it will pay off and he'll get through the chewing and destructive stage with your discipline and help.
(my dog got through it within his first yr. and was already potty trained within his first 6-8 months.)
Goodluck to you! it will be fun though frustrating at times, dont give up. because having my dog everyday when i wake up and come home is one of the best things there is.
